Fillings for cavities in Amsterdam West

Fillings

A cavity develops when bacteria in plaque produce acids that attack the enamel. A small cavity often causes no symptoms yet, but it gets bigger without treatment. At Florens Tandartsen, we restore cavities with tooth-coloured composite fillings, which are almost invisible.

How is a cavity filled?

We usually numb the tooth first. We then remove the decayed tooth tissue, clean the tooth and build it up in layers with composite, which is hardened with light. Finally, we smooth and polish the filling and check your bite

Amalgam fillings

Since 2025, amalgam may in principle no longer be used for new fillings in the EU. If you still have old amalgam fillings, they do not need to be replaced as long as they are in good condition. When we do need to remove an amalgam filling, we use a rubber dam and separate the amalgam, to minimise the burden on you and the environment.

Costs and insurance

The price of a filling depends on the number of tooth surfaces being filled. A filling costs €75.01 for one surface up to €153.78 for four surfaces. For children under 18, fillings are covered by basic health insurance; for adults, supplementary insurance often reimburses part of the costs.

Before and after treatment

Beforehand, the dentist discusses the approach and type of filling. After treatment, you can usually eat immediately, although the tooth may be temporarily sensitive. Good oral hygiene prolongs the life of the filling.
